Difficult to capture largest stones, 1" is estimate, larger unlikely, smaller than 3/4 also unlikely, so 1" is best guess. Hail ongoing. At 8:05pm ground solid white with hail, mostly 3/8 and smaller with a few to 3/4". Still raining. At 8:16pm hard rain, minor hail stones, still white, 3/8 and smaller. At 8:17 rain slacking off, hail appears to have ceased. Lightening throughout this event, no near strikes, seems to be cloud to cloud, lightening off to the NW of this site. FWIW around 7:50pm or so the hail appeared to come in quick waves with about 1/2 second of slack, then increased intensity. Did this for about 10 minutes then became less intense. You need to be inside an all steel barn to appreciate the noise waves. I was. Almost sounded like a lawn mower when it starves for fuel just before it shuts down. At 8:25pm no further hail, rain almost stopped. At 8:28pm storm has passed, only a few rain drops falling. Gutters clogged with hail, most hail on ground has melted. |
