4 May Storm report, Altamont, IL: At approx 0756 hrs the first sound of thunder was heard in the area. By approx 0808 hrs rain started and with-in a few seconds it became a down pour with strong winds, sever lightning and thunder. Around 0812 hrs there was 1/8” size hail falling. The hail lasted less than 1 ½ min, however the heavy rain fall and strong lightning and thunder continued for several more minutes. By 0816 hrs the major portion of the storm had passed. Rainfall total was .75 of an inch. There was a wind gust recorded at 25.21 mph from the NNW recorded. |
