34°12'N 118°12'W Location: Montrose, CA at the intersection of La Crescenta Blvd and Piedmont Ave. A thunderstorm formed over the foothills that lasted about an hour. Only 10 or so lightning strikes were seen and another ~5 heard. Rainfall was heavy, but not spectacular and actually tapering off some by the time the rice-sized hail was observed at 1631-1634. It was soft, white ice. Rain continued after the hail for another ~30 minutes. |
