No hail pad. Used 6-12" areas of Thymus minus (tight, flat) as hail pads because the hail does not melt so much on the thyme. Sun came out 3 min into the hail and remained out for some time afterwards (still sunny). Very rare 3/8" hail, mostly pea-sized, which is my normal. I get alerted that it is starting because just outside my "computer window" is a plastic-roofed patio. The hail is very loud on it. I expect that there may be some very minor hail damage to plants later on, but I don't usually see the small hits right away. My bonsai Japanese maple tree has many scars (more scar than bark) on the tops of its branches from hail hits over 12 yrs, even though it is pretty protected by being next to the garage. |
