2.5 inch soft hail began at 5:46 PM. Many of these seemed like aggregations of smaller hard stones partially frozen together in slushy masses. Leaf and twigs were being stripped right from the start, but the big slushballs were not hard enough to break windshields. By 5:55, intense hard hail with rain was mostly 1/2-5/8 inch, but numerous 1-inch sotnes were in there too. the visibility fell to less than 1/10 mile. The storm let up at 6:10. It was 77 at 5:35 PM and 39.7F at 6:10PM with layers of hail fog. Streets and yards were covered with 2 inches of accumulation, up to a foot deep in areas. By morning leaf litter blanketed most yards and parts of the street. Gardens was destroyed. I had no hail pad out. |
