These notes are my daily report: Very odd last night: I went out to check the grill at 1810 and it sounded as if the North Fork were to our south. I don't know if it was a wind roaring down Baldwin Creek or ??? Ten minutes later very large hail (1.2 inches) began to fall out of the sky. I thought the first couple were gunshots as they hit the galvanized roofs. Fortunately, these large hailstones were occasional rather than constant. We only had rumbles of thunder, nothing close. A real hailstorm hit (.25 to .3 inch pieces) from 1850 to 1900, when hard rain commenced. All with the occasional distant rumbles of thunder. I assume I missed measuring some of the moisture during the hailstorm. A tour of my gardens this AM showed a little damage, but I think the apple trees took the hit for most of the greens. (Apple trees had no real damage.) Dead calm and clear at observation time. I don't have a hail board as we have never had anything but small hail before. |
